The foundation for Salt of the Earth Communities was laid in 2012 when the Rocky Mountain District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod voted in convention to adopt a circuit-based model for mission. The motivating factor for this structural change in mission is fairly simple – local congregations know the missional needs of their surrounding communities. About this time, the Denver Northwest Circuit, led by Peace Lutheran Church in Arvada, Colorado, created a committee to oversee the circuit’s mission efforts. Pastor Larry McGurer was appointed to serve as the circuit’s mission liaison.
Pastor Larry and a community of missional Christians were officially commissioned by Peace Lutheran Church (on behalf of the Denver Northwest Circuit) for this new effort on Easter Sunday 2014. Our new group’s goal was simple – to learn how to live as a Missional Community and become an extended family on mission. We learned from other groups who use Missional Communities, like Soma Communities and 3DM. We then applied what we learned to our own culture and context. In time, Salt of the Earth Communities was formed.
It is our desire at Salt of the Earth Communities to share Missional Community ministry with others. We are doing so by raising up local leaders, and coaching others throughout the country to implement similar styles of mission in their communities. By God’s grace it is happening. To Him be the glory! If you are interested in joining us or receiving coaching, follow the appropriate link below.
